A really good week-end. My husband did not work. Amazing. I can count of the fingers of one hand how often that happens in a year. He had in mind to plant a vegetable garden. It reminded me of 'if you give a mouse a cookie' story. When he asked for the pic axe, I should have asked more questions.
For years we had a minuscule plot of land inside a community garden. We planted everything in that garden; corn, potatoes, of course tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, beets, broccoli, artichoke, stwawberry. Well, we called them that. A more exercised eye would have mostly seen crawling ants, worms, beetles, weeds and disease. You sure had to close your eyes before you swallowed. Oh it was organic gardening all right.
The point was, we got closer to the land as the kids played in the grass, I napped and blew on dandelions and he used brute force, pic axes and shears. Whatever money we saved on veggies, we spent on gas and water trying (and failing) to clean the vegetables. It was great.

I love the borders. I'm glad you had such a nice weekend, I was in bed all weekend and not in a fun way:(

So many people are growing their own food this year. Sounds lovely. Wish you would post a photo of the masterpiece. (And also, are you going to share the other blogs you write?) wink.

i come here for color and color is what i get! and much more :) a sense of home humor. i too have a pick axe wielding spouse. the pond is already built, the raised beds are done. all that is left is the work. maintaining, keeping the bugs, the deer, the herons the diseases and funguses at bay. exhausting but fun...most of the time or at least during the spring.
have a fun time with your flagstone raised vegetable bed. just think, now you can use all the pest killing strategies you want and no-one can say a thing.

Corine,
Thanks for your comments and the link, you're a great help in times of need!
We grow in our garden - or we did last year, this year we have taken a plot with some friends on a much grander scale so our garden sits neglected and reproachful...

Reading the description of a spouse always distracted by thoughts of work...sigh...you know girlfriend, I am the female version of your hubby. My husband and family must feel the same way you do as my mind is always split between being present and being in work and creativity land.
