Selina lake magic

In matter of photography, I'm not asking for much, all I want is to be able to do this:

These are fresh from Selina Lake's flickr page. I love the use of this deep purple and all that white. Of course, the photographer Sussie Bell has something to do with the final result, but Selina is still my girl. Remember, she's the stylist who brought us these:

If I had the time I would take a digital photography class at my local community college to get to the bottom of the issue. I'm using a very good camera, a nikon D200, which should, in all logic, do the job. But no. I suck. Once in a while I'll take a picure I like but can never understand how I did it, let alone reproduce the small miracle.

I am madly in love with that yellow dress. Or maybe, just with the idea, since I hate yellow. And I love that bottom pic.

I have zero photography skills, so I just concentrate on making sure my photos don't make you recoil in agony. :p
